In the early 1960s, the Long Island Expressway was extended out to Riverhead, and civilization came to this sleepy hamlet. Jericho Turnpike became a major trucking route to the East End and soon the suburbs grew along Commack’s highways. Today Commack is widely known for two things: shopping and food.
